Can I use PayPal to fund online keno?

Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes

PayPal is considered to be one of the best Internet payment services available for online transactions. Unfortunately, it steers clear from the online gambling industry in Australia, so AUD real money keno players can’t use it to deposit cash at their preferred casino site to play keno online.

Luckily, there are a number of alternative payment methods available for Australians which are legal, secure, convenient and instantaneous – we detail these in length below. But first, we explain why PayPal can’t be used.

Why can’t I use PayPal to play keno online?

Initially Paypal was available worldwide to use online for all types of gambling, including keno. However, in some parts of the world, PayPal had to veer away from offering their services to gambling sites due to legislation enforced in these countries.

Australia is one such country which enforces strict online gambling laws. While we can play keno 100% legally online, it has to be at offshore Internet keno sites. This is because the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001 prevents online casinos from operating within Australia.

As such, offshore online casinos, which are incredibly secure provided you play at reputable sites such as the many we recommend below, can’t get approval from PayPal and therefore these sites can’t offer it to their Aussie players.

PayPal’s policy states “activities involving gambling, gaming and/or any other activity with an entry fee and a prize” can be funded by PayPal “if the operator and customers are located exclusively in jurisdictions where such activities are permitted by law.”

This is why you may notice the PayPal brand on some online casinos before you log in and view the available payment methods as an Aussie player – PayPal can still be offered at online keno sites in some countries, just not to Australians.

While PayPal isn’t offered to Aussie players, there are a number of other payment methods which are compatible with the online gambling industry and we can use these to make a deposit and play real money keno online.

Alternative keno payment methods to PayPal

PayPal may have a huge following and a great reputation, but it isn’t the only web wallet which offers a secure payment service. Two popular e-Wallets in the gambling industry include Neteller and Skrill, both of which work in the same manner as PayPal – users open an account, fund it, and then use the username and password of their web wallet account to complete the transaction.

Australian keno players can opt for either e-Wallet and will find both are accepted at our recommended online casinos. It is important to note there may be fees when funding your Neteller or Skrill account, but there isn’t any when you make a deposit at our reputable keno sites. Additionally, your casino account will be funded immediately.

These digital wallets provide an additional layer of protection since you are not directly entering your details to the keno site. However, if you choose to play at our recommended sites this isn’t a problem due to the high security protocols employed by the operators.

As such you can opt for the following alternative payment methods, to get playing real money keno, too:

  • Visa, MasterCard, Maestro – enter your card details directly for an instantons transaction
  • Bank transfers – another highly secure option but it can take up to three to five days for the funds to appear in your account
  • Other e-Wallets – Click2Pay, EcoCard, and Entropay are also available at our recommended online casinos
  • Prepaid methods – load your card such as a Visa, MasterCard or other prepaid card, or a voucher such as paysafecard and deposit without entering any personal details at all
  • POLi – an Australian-only payment method available at many of our recommended online casinos, which is similar to a bank transfer but faster

Therefore, while we can’t get playing keno by using the PayPal service, we can opt for a number of other safe and secure deposit and withdrawal methods instead.
